This class will teach you the basics of government relations and how to get things done. We will discuss how to set a policy agenda and find out the best way to achieve your goals. Also, we will discuss tactics about how to meet with members of Congress, how to make your case, and when to go for broke or cut your losses and run. Also, we will discuss the status of federal legislation and regulations that affect local fire departments ever day. The focus of this class is working with the federal government, but you can apply these lessons learned at the state, tribal/territorial, and local levels too.
