Kenneth Stuebing, BHSc, CCP(f)

Over his career, Chief Stuebing has provided strong, consistent leadership that utilizes team building, innovative emergency response systems and technology to cultivate a competent and proud emergency services workforce. Ken has over thirty (30) years of experience working with both career and volunteer emergency services across Canada, and has a successful track record in the management of both Fire and EMS. This experience enables him to bring a broad perspective on emergency services to Halifax Fire and Emergency Services where he currently serves as the Fire Chief. In this position, he is responsible to Council for the provision of Fire Services, Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management.

Chief Stuebing began his career as a Paramedic after graduating in 1984 and has worked in all types of EMS services in many communities and Provinces across Canada. He culminated his clinical activity as Critical Care Flight Paramedic on Bandage 1 in Toronto, Canada. In 1988, Chief Stuebing became a career Firefighter with the City of Kitchener Fire Department and over the years led many change initiatives in the department and was promoted to Captain at the earliest opportunity. After serving as a Captain for almost 6 years he accepted the Assistant Chief of Operations position with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service in 2006. In this portfolio, Chief Stuebing was directly responsible for all aspects Operations with almost 1200 Career Firefighters, Paramedics and an Arson Strike Force. In late 2007, Chief Stuebing was promoted to the Deputy Chief of Professional Development for which he was assigned multiple change initiatives. After serving almost eight years in Winnipeg, Chief Stuebing accepted the Fire Chief position in 2013 with Chatham-Kent Fire Emergency Services (CKFES) and was named the Fire Paramedic Chief.

Chief Stuebing has been a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (Canadian Division of the IAFC) since 2006. While a member of the Canadian Division he has served on the Membership and Fire and Life Safety Committees. Chief Stuebing was appointed to the executive committee as the Division Secretary in 2010 and held that title until 2015 when he was appointed as the IAFC Division Director for a two year term. Chief Stuebing is also an active member with the Ontario Fire Chief Association and has been a long standing member of the Canadian Paramedic Chiefs Association as well as the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs.

Chief Stuebing holds a Bachelor Degree in Health Sciences with Charles Sturt University in Australia, a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership with York University in Toronto, a Diploma from Seneca College and Certificate from Conestoga College in Aeromedical and Ambulance & Emergency Care respectively. Chief Stuebing is certified by the Ontario Fire College in the Recruit Training Program and the Fire Protection Technologies Program. He is licensed with the Province of Ontario as an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (A-EMCA) and with PROSCI for Change Management. Chief Stuebing has been a faculty member and content expert for the Ontario Fire College for the Emergency Patient Care Program and a founding faculty member for the Flight Academy in Toronto for Primary, Advanced and Critical Care Flight Paramedic Programs.

Chief Stuebing is an avid sportsmen and enjoys hockey, lacrosse, skiing, equestrian activities, camping, angling and boating. He believes strongly in giving back and has been very involved for over two decades coaching high performance athletes in hockey, lacrosse, swimming and equestrian events.

Ken has been married to Pamela for over thirty (30) years. They have two children, Justin and Brandon. Both children attended Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri on a lacrosse scholarship and graduated with degrees.
