Jason Culberson MBA, NRP is the Fire Chief for the Rapid City Fire Department. The Rapid City Fire Department is nestled at the base of the Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota and is prepared and trained to respond to a wide variety of calls for service. The 172 personnel respond from 8 strategically located stations throughout the community. The Department’s ambulances cover an area of 3,200 square miles, with a daytime population in excess of 300,000 people in the summer. On average the department responds to over 21,000 calls for service in a year. Under his guidance, the department has implemented innovative programs to improve community safety and medical response; to include the Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program (Mobile Medic), Paramedic education, Medical Billing, and Special Response Team (SRT) Paramedics, and single role EMS only employees.
Jason has held many positions throughout his career to include firefighter paramedic, flight paramedic, and Operations Supervisor. In his 28-year career he has accepted some notable leadership positions which have been: Program Director – Black Hills Lifeflight, Division Chief – Medical Operations Rapid City Fire, and most recently he was appointed the 19th Fire Chief of the Rapid City Fire Department. His passion for providing quality care to the community he lives in has made it possible for him to obtain the leadership positions that he has had.
Jason holds a Bachelor’s degree from Montana State University-Billings, and an MBA from Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD.
Known for his dedication to his employees and his community, Chief Culberson is well respected within the department and the community. His extensive experience and strategic vision make him a trusted leader in the emergency medical and fire services.
