Megan found her interest in the fire service in 2001 after graduating from Purdue University with a BA in Communications, she took an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course on a whim, which became the spark for her career in public safety. She served as a firefighter/paramedic with Decatur Township Fire Department, 2004 to 2017, and the Risk Mitigation and Public Information Coordinator, 2016 to 2017. In 2017, she had the opportunity to serve as the program director for the EMT and paramedic programs at Ascension St. Vincent, Indianapolis, and most recently as the field program manager for Districts 4 and 5 for the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. Megan returned to Decatur Township Fire Department in May 2022 to serve as the Division Chief of Organization Development and External Affairs. She has a true passion for Community Risk Reduction (CRR) and finds immense value in engaging with the community.
In addition, Megan has earned her M.S. in Threat and Response Management, Type III credentialled Planning Section Chief, Type III credentialled Public Information Officer, Primary Instructor, and a multitude of fire and EMS certifications. Megan has served with the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA) in several capacities, which include Assistant Executive Director and the Indiana FEMA SAFER grant coordinator for recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. Most recently, she became a member of Indiana Task Force One as a Technical Information Specialist.
