Brian Edmonston is a 20 + year member of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Currently holds the rank of Deputy Chief and serves as the Chief Training Officer for the Department overseeing the Training Division. The Training Division provides training for the 2000 career and volunteer personnel in the department. He oversees four distinct programs which include, Basic, EMS, Field, and Professional Development. In his previous role he served in Executive in the Office of the Fire Chief and overseeing the department’s Health and Wellness programs. These programs include the Occupational Health Center, Wellness Center (Behavioral Health) and Wellness Fitness (WellFit) Center. The Health and Wellness programs serves approximately 3500 firefighter and other public safety personnel. These programs are nationally recognized by the IAFF Wellness Fitness Initiative, The Congressional Fire Services Institute and serve as a model for public safety agencies nationwide.
Brian is a Nationally Registered Paramedic, serves on an NFPA Committee, elected board member of the Uniformed Retirement Fund, past member of the Fairfax County Urban, Search& Rescue (US&R) team. Chief Edmonston continues to his advocacy role as the President of the Fairfax County Fire Officer’s Association.
Brian is committed to the health and wellness in the fire and rescue service and is a student of the profession. He holds two master’s degrees (MSHS and MPA). He is also credentialed as Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and Chief Emergency Medical Services Officer (CEMSO) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).
