Assistant Chief Jason Powell has been involved in emergency services for over 30 years. He has gained experience in various roles throughout his career, including volunteer and career firefighter, first response and transport paramedic, dispatcher, special operations, supervisor, administrator, and instructor. Chief Powell joined the Johnson City Fire Department (JCFD) in 1997 and has progressed from firefighter/EMT to the position of Assistant Chief of Administration. Before joining the JCFD, Chief Powell obtained undergraduate degrees in EMS (AAS) and Public Relations (BA). Over the past 25 years, he has acquired numerous fire certifications and an MBA and has been designated as a Chief Fire Officer, Chief EMS Officer, and Chief Training Officer.
Additionally, Chief Powell is an adjunct instructor for the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Academy and Walters State Community College. He also runs a consulting business called Fired Up Leadership and Safety. Chief Powell has been married to his wife, Maggie, for 24 years, and they have an 18-year-old son named Eli.
