With 18 years of dedicated service in firefighting and emergency management, Captain Sean Cummings is a seasoned professional who seeks to make a positive impact on the fire service. He has a proven track record of effective leadership in various roles within the Austin Fire Department including Special Operations, Fire Communications, and the Travis County Emergency Operations Center. During his tenure Captain Cummings has successfully managed large-scale incidents, implemented strategic plans, and enhanced operational efficiencies all with a focus on firefighter safety.
Outside of his regular role, Sean responds to major disasters as Hazmat Manager as well as Hazmat Emergency Push Package (HEPP) Manager for Texas A&M Task Force 1. You may also recognize Captain Cummings for his work with the IAFC Firefighter Near Miss Initiative, the IAFC Technology Council, and as a board member for the IAFC Company Officer’s Section.
Sean is dedicated to advancing emergency response through data analytics and cutting-edge technologies, promoting higher education across all ranks of the fire service, and advocating for comprehensive wellness programs that support firefighters' physical and mental health. His commitment extends to creating leadership and mentoring programs aimed at preparing future fire service leaders.
Currently pursuing a Master’s of Public Administration with an Emergency Management concentration at Sam Houston State University, Sean holds a Bachelor’s in Fire Administration with a Homeland Security emphasis from Texas A&M San Antonio, and an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Austin Community College.
Sean firmly believes that Integrity, Respect, Ownership, Discipline, Initiative, and Intent are foundational to leadership and innovation in the fire service, benefiting both firefighters and the communities they serve.
