Started in 2003, my fire service career and has spanned 21 years of service with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD). At each rank in my career, I have served in both operations and administrative roles. I've trained and worked as a part of our Georgia Search and Rescue (GSAR) team for AFRD; and in 2005, served as part of a metro Task Force deployed to Hurricane Katrina-impacted areas. As a Firefighter, I also served as an analyst focusing on response analysis, planning, and performance measurement. In this role, I also developed a methodology for Fire Risk Valuation for buildings and operational risk assessment; and co-developed a web-based application used for response analysis and mitigation. As a Lieutenant, I served on units city-wide as a Rover, or floating officer. I also served as the Liaison to the Fire Chief for two appointed AFRD Fire Chiefs. In this role, I provided executive support internally and externally to City leadership and partners; managed projects and initiatives; and managed the Public Information Office. As a Captain, I managed recruitment, new employee onboarding coordination, hiring process, and youth programs in our background investigations and recruitment section. I also returned to the line as a company officer. Today, I have served as our Accreditation Manager since 2021. I also have the privilege of supporting 2 team members and managing a team of 15 volunteers.
My proudest job is being a mom to Andrew, age 8, and William, age 6.
I hold a mathematics degree from Spelman College and studied abroad for my junior year. In 2024, I anticipate the completion of a Masters degree with a focus on HR. I have the privilege of serving as a board member and volunteer with local organizations; and as peer assessor for other accredited fire service agencies. I have also been privileged to be recognized by AFRD, Atlanta City Council, and local organizations and boards.
