Officer Development Program - Company Officer Leadership II (CO II)

CO-206: Emergency Management

During this 90-minute interactive presentation, Chris will take officers through the process of developing a pre-plan and emergency management map that can be used at all levels of the fire service. We will review the required curriculum of Columbia Southern Universities Officer Development Program, Company Officer II; Unit VI: Emergency Management.
Additionally, we will discuss tools to bridge the gap between Emergency Management and Emergency Response. One tool is to create a personal map focused on Emergency Response via GIS shapefiles for use among responders, with support from Emergency Managers, fire marshals, and state/federal representatives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will identify the initial concepts of what vulnerability, hazards & risk are and will identify how to differentiate each item.
  • Participants will learn mapping tools at the national, state and local level to create approprate response maps based on responder safety and community vulnerability.
  • Participants will be able to gather and identify contacts, lists, and partnerships to effectively and safely support their members in response.
