How much money does your jurisdiction spend addressing issues like homelessness, opiate addiction, mental health, and lack of access to healthcare? Since COVID-19, many jurisdictions have realized the true potential of fire departments being a highly trained, organized, and motivated workforce. Many have also realized that several chronic societal issues can be addressed by utilizing fire department personnel. This presentation will highlight the importance of administrative strategy, partnership, innovation, technology, and resource allocation to help communities address health equity and other societal inequities. Attendees will walk through examples of programs that are intended to address these issues, all while keeping fire department units in service for severe emergencies.
