On-Scene Decon: All that is needed to end Firefighter Cancer…or is it?
In a short 60 minutes, we will explore a 360-degree view of cancer prevention in the fire service. Topics will include a brief history of firefighter cancer research, the importance of sleep, the value of nutrition, mental/behavioral health, fitness/physicals, and On-scene decontamination. We will explore each topic individually and discuss their impact on cancer prevention. Each topic is critical. Each is very important, but by the end of the session, we will collectively demonstrate how better they all are together to prevent cancer. I will share links for several abstracts that will be discussed. And provide two QR codes that will be shared for the National Registry and Personal Exposure Reporting.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the importance of sleep
Discuss the value of good nutrition
Discuss Mental/Behavioral Health
Discuss the importance of fitness/physicals, and finally discuss On-scene decontamination
